Q: What was the role of music in the early years of your life?
Took heavy inspiration from my father who produced his own music. He was a heavy listener to Breakbeat artists such as The Prodigy and Leftfield. I grew up on some of the most energetic music possible and could always pick out each instrument and lyric used in every song.
Q: Are you from a musical or artistic family?
My Father is a Music Producer and My Grandfather is part of the Royal Marines Band. It seems to go through the family tree.
Q: Who inspired you to be a part of the music industry?
My biggest inspiration was my father. Although he never believed in himself, his music really was captivating and showed a true side to him. I want to show him it is possible and we can all make it in our own way. Whether I have a small following or a large one, I want to make him proud.
Q: How did you learn to sing/write/play?
I learned to sing through myself and listeners telling me whether I was good or not through the most brutal of ways. I didn't get disheartened if someone told me I was shit, I simply asked how do I improve? I learned to play through my ears. I have no idea about Chords. I hear Musicians always say B Flat, A minor, G Major etc but I haven't a clue what they actually sound like or even look like on paper. My music is made through my ears and what sounds right on the software. That to me what I love. I play around with sounds and get what I like.
Q: What was your first music teacher like?
I never had one, if anything I did have Music class at school but I use to bunk from it purely because all she wanted to talk about was classical which don't get me wrong. I do like Classical but I wanted more energy.
Q: What was the first instrument you learned to play?
I officially learned the Hurdy-Gurdy out of all instruments and even then it's definitely a half assed learning process but I did learn to use the keyboard in my later life along with electric guitar and stuck to those two.
Q: What is the story behind your band/artist name?
I was rather young when the name stuck with me. I was 11 years old and my brother who is 5 years older than me had a few friends which would have a laugh with me. They use to think I was some really intelligent lad because I knew a lot about history and was a massive gamer. One day one of them called me megamind due to my "intelligence" and "geekiness". Then by the time I was 14 when I really started to make music properly. A few of my friends would message me "boi" rather than mate or lad etc. So Megamindboi was born and stayed.
Q: What was the first concert that you ever went to?
The first Gig I ever went to was to a lass called Niamh Wainwright in 2016. She had such an amazing voice and was a year older than me so I felt ablidged to get in contact with her. We now both create music together.
Q: How could you describe your music?
A bit fucky? Crazy? Synthesiser madness? There is no real defining genre I do. It is purely what I want to make. I don't cater to a specific genre. All my albums are different. It's a little bit of everything here.
Q: Describe your creative process?
Press a button to make a sound. If sound is good, expand. Basic melody structure. Do the bass, make it line up or bounce with the melody. It matches? Great! Now start with the percussion, slow or fast? Hard or Soft? It is literally my creative process, press buttons to make it sound good. With the singing I complete the track and just let go.
Q: What is your main inspiration?
My main inspiration is certainly my father however if we are talking big artists it has to be Leftfield. They are genius.
Q: What musician/artist do you admire the most?
Leftfield, No doubt about it
Q: What is one message you would like to give to your fans?
If you're not normal then you're doing the right thing. BE YOU!
Q: How would you describe your fans?
Unique in the most beautiful way!
Q: Do you create for yourself or for your fans?
I create for myself.
Q: Do you prefer to listen to music or create it?
Hard question, can I say both?
Q: Did your style evolve since the beginning of your career?
100%! I use to be a trap artist because I was so big back when I started. Now I just enjoy doing whatever the fuck I want.
Q: Who do you see as your main competitor?
I don't like to have competitors. We are all unique and do our own thing.
Q: Would you agree that it is very important to learn, study and understand old music and
music history?
Oh yes! How did music even start? Why do we enjoy it? What sort makes us happy and sad? It is so important!
Q: If you could have a musician tag along with you on tour for one month , who would you
choose?
The Prodigy
Q: What do you enjoy most about being an artist?
Showing my music. No greater feeling.
Q: What skills are most useful in the music industry?
I honestly have no clue? I would probably say being your best possible self.
Q: How do you handle frequent travels and being away from home for long periods of time?
I struggle, I own 2 horses and I don't like to leave them for long periods of time. I am a massive softie for that.
Q: How do you handle working evenings and nights?
I am up most nights producing in my free time. I don't have an issue staying up or being able to sleep.
Q: When was the last time you performed in front of a huge audience?
I did a gig a few years ago with Niamh and my "huge" audience was an audience of around 220 people in a small pub. Was a beautiful time.
Q: Tell me about your best performance?
One Eyed Dog Pub in Portsmouth, UK. Myself and Niamh Wainwright played our single Castaway for the first time in front of a live audience of 150 people. It was so powerful and we hardly had any time to rehearse it so a lot of it was impromptu. It was recorded and then released thanks to a fan sending us a recording of the live performance.
Q: . Tell me about your worst performance?
My worst performance was a solo gig at an illegal rave by Wickham. It just didn't go well, police turned up before my set even started so ideally my worst performance.
Q: Do you experience stress before going on stage?
Always. I worry if people like my stuff or not but at the end of the day. I want to please not only myself but those who do appreciate.
Q: What would you do if the audience looked bored during your performance?
After a song finished, ask what the audience want? You want loud and crazy or slow and mellow?
Q: How do you energize the audience?
Mainly by having a good time myself. If I feel like doing the worm imma do the worm.
Q: What is the biggest problem you have encountered in the journey of music?
Probably growth.
Q: If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?
The bitchiness man. We all do our own music, our own ideas, we should share them together not belittle eachother. The music industry is a hard topic.
Q: Have you ever participated in any music competition?
Never
Q: What are your plans for the coming months?
Singles and Albums in the making
Q: Do you have any artistic collaboration plans?
Not yet however I am always open
Q: What does your typical day look like?
6am-9am Horses, 10am-5pm Work, 6pm-8pm Horses, 9pm-2am Free time.
Q: How do you think social media has changed the music industry?
It has definitely given a chance to grow to a much wider audience around the world.
Q: What does your typical weekend look like?
Saturday Work, Sunday day off
Q: How do you balance the music and your other obligations-school, family, etc?
I juggle if I am honest. I have a loving family and I am the breadwinner for them through my work. My horses get a lot of attention too of course. My main focus is my family before anything else. I want them to be happy and that's all that matters. Music sadly comes last but I always make the time for it.
Q: What is the best gig you’ve ever played?
One Eyed Dog, Portsmouth, UK.
Q: What is the saddest song you've ever heard?
Mac DeMarco - Chamber Of Reflection

Horse Riding
Gaming and Traveling
